Detox baths are the easiest and most effective way to pamper yourself at home.

Detox baths are done in order to naturally detoxify your body through your skin. Toxins can be found in a multitude of things that we use everyday, from soaps and shampoos, all the way to the pesticides found in the fruit and veggies we consume. While our bodies naturally detox themselves, sometimes we need a little extra boost so that our bodies don’t have to work to hard to rid us of all of the nasty chemicals we’re exposed to every day.

While it’s just not possible to avoid these toxins completely, it is possible for us to effectively remove them from our bodies. If we don’t take the time and put in the effort to remove these built up toxins, they can make us sick and they can even be the cause of disease in our body. While most toxins can be removed from the body via urine or bowel movements, the rest needs to be eliminated through sweat- which is where detox baths come in.

Detox baths consist of magnesium sulphate aka epsom salt which not only detoxes the body but it also eases stress, aids circulation, improves sleep, prevents blood clots, reduces inflammation, relieves pain, improves the absorption of vitamins and nutrients, eases headaches and SO much more.

To create a detox bath yourself, add 2 cups of epsom salts to your bath along with a few drops of your favorite essential oils (like lavender, tea tree, and/or peppermint) also add 1 cup of baking soda to neutralize the chemicals in your bath water. Make sure that the water is fairly hot as the main goal of the detox bath is to make you sweat. The, immerse your entire body into the bath water and soak for approximately 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes is up, slowly exit the bath, you may feel slightly dizzy and/or lightheaded. Move to the shower and rinse off in cool water, this will help with that dizziness and lightheadedness and it will help to lower your body temperature. Do not apply any shampoos or body washes as your pores are more susceptible to absorbing the chemicals from these products after a detox bath. After you’ve dried off, be sure to avoid any chemicals found in moisturizers and other skin care products, instead, apply a natural moisturizer like coconut oil or shea butter. Avoid eating directly before or after a detox bath and be sure to hydrate with LOTS of  filtered water. Detox baths are best to have at night as it’s very important to relax directly after.

Taking a detox bath once a week will not only help you to relax and rejuvenate, but it will also help to improve your overall health and have you living a longer and happier life.
