You’ve signed up for the latest eating plan, cleared out your cupboards and written up a new exercise routine. Going on a diet can seem remarkably simple at first and just by changing up a few of your normal lifestyle habits, it is very possible to start shedding the pounds. Over time, however, we can get stuck in a few tricky habits which can actually slow down our progress and have a detrimental effect on our health. These dieting mistakes might not seem like much but, do them too often, you risk slowing your progress before it’s even begun.
- Eating Too Little
It seems obvious that by cutting our portion sizes, we will lose all the weight we desire but the reality might not be quite as simple. Eating too little will actually cause your body to go into survival mode, making it hold onto whatever calories you take in and slow your metabolism down dramatically. Eating healthy, balanced meals on a regular basis and help to keep things ticking over in your body and give you the chance to shed a little extra fat. What’s more, you will have more energy to supercharge your workout!
- Making Exercise A Job
Exercise should be something that makes you feel good about yourself and your body and after working out, you should be buzzing. If you think of exercise as something that you have to do, however, it can quickly become a chore and sticking to your routine can be all the more tricky. To avoid this lull, try picking an activity that you already know you love; you will feel much more motivated and might just start to look forward to your next session!
- Being Too Hard On Yourself
When you put yourself on a diet, you can restrict a lot of the food that you typically put inside your body but from time to time, it’s ok to allow yourself a little leeway. Banning certain foods and sticking to a sparse diet can cause you to become demotivated in what you do, making you much more likely to give up. Cut yourself a little slack from time to time; the more relaxed you are, the easier the whole process will be.
