The exercise that many boot camp goers dread, burpees are one of the most effective ways in which to whip your body into shape and get rid of those remaining few pounds. Toning your upper core, upper body and legs at the same time, the exercise is one of the most effective exercises out there and unlike running, won’t put unnecessary pressure on your joints. Starting in a plank position, jump both feet into your chest, jump up into a standing position and then return to your pose on the floor. It might seem easy at first but after a few repetitions, your blood will really be pumping!

If you prefer something with a little more movement to it, however, then cycling is a great activity to try. Improving your flexibility and your strength, the activity can really help you to shed the pounds and tone up your muscles, making the fat practically fall off your body. Better yet, cycling can work wonders on your heart, working between high adrenaline and endurance activities; the more you vary your activity, the quicker you will be able to recover!

  1. Swimming

While running is a great way of strengthening your heart and working up a sweat, it can also put undue pressure on your muscles and joints and unless you’re careful, it’s easy to develop injuries in later life. Swimming, on the other hand, comes equipped with all the health benefits of a vigorous run but, thanks to the support of the water, won’t damage any of your joints in the process. Working all of your muscles at the same time, swimming can help you to sculpt your entire body, strengthening even the most hard to reach of places. Better yet, the sport can be great for working through periods of stress and tension, helping you to work through any issue.

When you hit the gym, you might be tempted by the dumbbells or static weights but there’s good reason why you should be focusing your attentions elsewhere. Helping to improve your strength, fine tune your balance and work off a whole load of extra fat, battle ropes are a highly effective exercise and, when worked into a fitness regime, can have seriously impressive results. Lifting and slamming the ropes in a standing position can help to work your arm muscles and your core, depending on your position. The more repetitions you do, the more fat that you can burn, so make each session really count.
