Whether in the context of a sports team, an office setting or anything in between, leadership is of the utmost importance. But when we think of what a leader is, the blueprint is different for everybody. For some, a leader is a strong and somewhat harsh individual who is capable of directing and leading and other believe that a leader is someone who leads by example with honesty and a respectful nature. No matter what your idea of a fantastic leader is, there are some things that almost universally go into making a good leader.

Perhaps the single most important thing that makes a good leader (and simply a good person) is honesty. When you are in charge of a group of individuals that look up to you for leadership, it is extremely important that you lead by example and run an honest and ethical operation. Plus, if you as a leader are lying to your employees or customers it doesn’t exactly encourage your workers to be honest.

On top of being honest, being a great communicator is also extremely instrumental in making someone a great leader. Knowing you want to do in your head is one thing, but explaining it and laying out in an understandable manner is another thing. It you are not able to successfully communicate your vision to your employees, it will be tough for you all to work towards the same goal.

Also, being able to inspire and motivate your employee is a massive help in being a great leader. By getting your team pumped about the future and what you guys are doing, you are greatly increasing the chance that you guys will be an efficient bunch.
