Throughout your day at work or at school, we all get those midday hunger pangs where we just cannot focus on anything but how hungry we are. If you find yourself in this position often, bringing snack is the obvious thing to do. But if you can’t do that for whatever reason, try these three tips and tricks to keep that appetite at bay.
1. Have a Big Drink
Having a drink can be a huge help when you are hungry and this is because the signals for hunger and the signals for thirst are very similar and you can easily trick your brain into thinking one over the other. When you feel hungry, slam a big glass of water and see if it keeps the hunger suppressed. Also, coffee is a good option as it is a natural appetite suppressant and can also give your metabolism a boost thanks to the caffeine in it!
2. Chew Gum
This is the age old trick for holding off hunger and that is because it works. This is because it basically can feel like you’re eating, while you are obviously not. Because the chewing is something your body usually connects with eating, chewing gum can actually make you feel fuller without actually eating anything. And gum is something you can easily keep with you in a pocket or at your desk for your chewing pleasure throughout the day.
3. Brushing Your Teeth
While this may seem like a strange one, it actually makes a ton of sense if you think about it! The last thing we normally want to do after we finish brushing our teeth is to go and eat something, so this is a clever little trick you can play on your mind to not be hungry. Plus, brushing your teeth is obviously very good for you, so you are killing two birds with one stone!
