While going through your day to day life, you likely run into more than a few people who simply have no awareness of the world around them. Whether they stop in a busy hallway, stand in the middle of moving foot traffic or anything in between, these people are without a doubt annoying and here are three tips to be a more aware person so you can avoid annoying everyone around you.

If you are not already practicing mindfulness or meditation, you should start. It has a laundry list of positive benefits and one of them is that it will help you be a more aware human being. This is because being mindful can help a ton with empathy. And when you are an empathetic person, you are mindful of those around you in your surroundings and this will stop you from being unaware of what they are doing.

2. Listen

In life, we are often pretty busy and thus do not listen to others and our environment as much as we probably should. Even during a one on one conversation, we are sometimes so concerned about what our response will be or judging the other person, that we hardly listen to what they are actually saying. If you listen attentively to their words (or to what is going on in your surroundings), you will be much more aware in life.

3. Don’t Rush Through Your Day

While this one can be hard for those who lead extremely busy lives, it can be a huge help in being more aware. People often rush from one commitment or activity to another all day and this can greatly decrease mental awareness and also lead to stressful thoughts or feelings. In life, don’t be afraid to hit the pause button from time to time and take some breaths. Live in the present moment, don’t be afraid to smell the roses, and be aware of those around you.
