When it comes to a birthday gift or a surprise party, most of us are usually quite fond of surprises. But unfortunately, not all surprises are positive and are things we are excited for. Sometimes, life can throw us a curveball in terms of a negative surprise that we weren’t expected. Here are three tips to deal with these negative surprises and not let them ruin your day.

If you have a strong mind and are capable of being mindful, surprising negative news will not affect you as much as it might with someone who doesn’t have good control of their minds or emotions. Inner strength and peace can greatly help you deal with negativity in life and help you cope with it. While this doesn’t automatically make the news good, it can help you cope and move forward.

2. Acknowledge the Fact That You Can’t Know Everything

We all know those people who hate any kind of the “unknown”. But, unfortunately for them, surprises and unexpected events are a part of almost everyone’s life. If you can be aware and accept that these things are necessary and that you can’t know everything, it will go a long way in making sure you are better equipped to deal with it when you need to. Life doesn’t follow some predetermined path, so expect the unexpected, because it will come.

3. Respond in a Positive Manner and Look For Silver Lining

In life, everything is about your attitude and how you respond to situations. A terrible situation can be made much more manageable if you respond to it with a positive attitude and mindset. Plus, if you think positively about these situations you have perceived as negative, you may just be able to find out that it is a blessing in disguise. For example, being fired from a job is negative, but if you think of it in a positive manner, you may think of it as an opportunity to finally start that business you have always wanted to start or take that trip you’ve always wanted to take.
