With the beautiful summer weather comes unwanted oil build-up, sunburns, acne flare ups and a whole host of other skin problems. Today, we’re here to hack your body (specifically your skin) into looking flawless all summer long with these 4 simple summer skin care tips!
1. Wear less makeup
Piling on layers of foundation, concealer, highlighter, contour, etc. is one of the worst things you can do for your skin in the summer months (and it’s probably one of the last things you want to do when it’s 110 degrees.) When our pores are clogged by our makeup along with sweat and the oils that our skin produces naturally, we’re more likely to break out. If you’re insecure about the looks of your bare skin, or even if you just feel more ‘you’ with a little makeup on, consider switching your full foundation/contour/highlight routine for a simple BB or CC creme.
2. Always apply SPF
If you’ve ever had a nasty sunburn on your face, you’ve regretted not throwing on some SPF as you left the house. Not only is a sunburn extremely damaging, but it makes you look like $#!T- which will in turn have you piling on more makeup to reduce the redness from your burn. See point #1. Sun exposure leads to premature aging, freckles, sun spots, cold sores, and even skin cancer. Always apply SPF formulated for the skin on your face to prevent all of the nastiness above.
3. Exfoliate regularly
Exfoliating regularly is important 365 days of the year, but most of all in the summer because our skin is exposed to the environment. It’s extra important to scrub away all of the sweat, dead skin, and pollution that our skin accumulates when we’re spending extra time outside. Purchase a light exfoliant for daily use and a heavier scrub for weekly use.
That glorious summer sun is known to make our skin extra dry- combined with salt water and a chlorine pool and our skin is sure to suffer! Moisturizing multiple times a day helps to improve the overall health of our skin and it’ll keep you feeling refreshed all day long leading to flawless summer skin!
