While hunger is a problem for millions of people all over the world, North America has a different epidemic when it comes to eating. Currently, the number of overweight and obese people is staggering and a large reason behind this is overeating. We all do it from time to time without even knowing it and without knowing how bad it is, here are three of the most common reasons why we overeat.

1. You are Bored

This is probably among the biggest culprits behind why we overeat. On weekends, evenings or days off, we often don’t have too much to keep us busy if we are just relaxing. During these times and days, it is normal and almost socially acceptable for us to simply eat because we have nothing else to do. If you are just used to eating every time you are bored, it will become normal and become a very unhealthy part of your daily life.

2. You are Not Aware How Many Calories That You Are Taking In

It is entirely possible that you have no idea that your regular eating habits are actually unhealthy and could classify as overeating. If you eat a lot of food and calories every day, it becomes normal and you really don’t question how much you eat. However, if most of us were to count our calories and nutrient intake we would likely see we are taking in much more calories than we need, but not getting enough healthy foods and nutrients. If you are concerned that you may be overeating (over even if you aren’t) you should track your intake for a few days just to see.

3. You are Upset and Food Comforts You

We all do this, even though we likely know how bad it is for us. When we are having a bad day, going through relationship problems or going through any other uncomfortable events or situations, we tend to overeat. Food acts as a comforting mechanism for a lot of people and can help people take their minds off of their situation and keep them busy. It is a much better idea to actually face and try fix your problem as opposed to just eating your problems away and masking them with food.
