Whether you are an uber successful businessman or someone struggling to get by, we all have bad habits we can and should work on. But as you know, bad habits can be hard to break, but here are three tips to help you try break them.
1. Improve Your Awareness
The first key to breaking a bad habit is to know that you have a bad habit. The sad thing is, many people can never even get to this step. A number of our bad habits are formed when we are young and thus, can be incredibly hard to break. If you have trouble with awareness of bad habits, ask friends and family about it and ask them to be honest. Sometimes people don’t use their support circle enough when trying to break bad habits or improve themselves as a person.
2. Strengthen Your Self Control Over Time
If you find you can’t totally eliminate your problem at one time, you may need to wean yourself off of the habit slowly. It can be extremely hard to stop a bad habit cold turkey, so slowly reducing the prevalence of that habit can help a ton. Practicing your self-control over time can help you to dispose of these bad habits faster, but most can’t go away in a single day, so perseverance can be key.
3. Replace and Be Proactive
Perhaps the worst part about these bad habits is that, even once you successful break them for a period, they can often come back. These habits can rear their ugly heads up anytime and can sometimes come back without you even knowing. In order to combat this, you need to be vigilant and proactive in keeping this away. A great way to do this is to quickly try to replace those old and bad habits with new and healthy or positive habits.
