Homemade salads are good for the soul, but if you’re looking for a healthy option while dining out, don’t bother. Store-bought salads are often so loaded with calories from extra toppings and dressings that they’re just as calorific as anything else on the menu. They’re also often made with iceberg lettuce as a base, which is pretty much just crunchy water with no nutritional content of its own. If you really want to buy a salad, opt for a balsamic dressing and use it sparingly.
