There are a ton of people who spend hours and hours a week working on their bodies but can we say the same about our minds? With technology becoming all-encompassing, streamlined and requiring us to think less throughout the day, brain training is as important, if not more important, than training out bodies. And while the technology is partly to blame for this “thinking less” phenomenon, it can also be the saviour as there are many apps out there that aim to improve brain function. Here are three of the best.

1. Elevate

Elevate is an freemium app that allows its users to train an extremely wide variety of brain functions such as comprehension and memory. And while some apps focus on brain abilities, Elevate focuses on trainable and practical skills like language, math and reading/spelling comprehension. The app has a wide variety of short exercises that take only a few minutes to complete and over time, you can track your progress over time and see if that training you are doing on Elevate is really paying off.

2. Fit Brains

Fit Brains is brought to you by the same people who created Rosetta Stone, which lets you know it has a fantastic team behind it. The app contains 350+ games and training exercises that are all designed to work on concentration, memory and many more brain functions. The app also utilizes a scoring system which allows users to track and compare their performance against users of a similar age or gender. This data also allows the game to adjust the difficulty of the games dynamically based on your own success and progress in the game, which is a very cool feature.

3. Pacifica

Now this entry is somewhat different than the other two as it doesn’t train the brain in terms of memory, comprehension or anything like that. Instead, Pacifica is an app that helps you deal with stress, anxiety and negativity. As I’m sure you’re aware, those things are extremely harmful not only to your brain, but also can be harmful in other areas of your day to day life. The app contains a mood tracker which can help you keep track of your mental and emotional state from day to day and the app also runs you through daily tasks that teach you to be mindful of your emotional health. If you struggle at all with anxiety or a lot of stress, you should check this app out.
