There are perhaps no better ways to get a ton of nutrients in a relatively short amount of time than with a smoothie. Not only are these things great for you (of course, depending on what you put in them) but they can also be consumed very fast and can taste great. There are a ton of great recipes out there, but here are some things you should toss in most smoothies you make.
1. Ground Flax and Chia Seeds
While these super-seeds offer little flavour additions to a smoothie, they offer a wide variety of different health benefits. These help your brain function better with their omega fatty acids and they fight heart disease and cholesterol. In addition to these already great benefits, they also offer a good amount of fiber, sufficient protein, antioxidants and more.
2. Spinach and/or Kale
Getting your greens is extremely important and putting them in smoothies is one of the best ways. The flavors of things like spinach and kale can be too intense and/or bitter for some, but by putting them in a fruit based smoothie, their flavor is overpowered. So in smoothies, you won’t get the harsh taste (unless you put crazy amounts in), yet you still get the great health benefits and vitamins and minerals.
3. Protein Powder
Getting enough protein can be hard. This is true for everyone, but also increasingly true for those who are vegetarians or vegans. If you find yourself struggling to get enough protein, protein powder is your friend. Not only will this help reach your protein levels without having to eat a ton of meat and nuts, they also come in delicious tastes and they blend fantastically. And this isn’t only for those who work out and are looking to get big, the addition of protein powder can help everyone.
