While there are a ton of people out there who are extremely confident in themselves, their lives and their abilities, there are also those on the other side of the spectrum. Insecurity about ourselves is something we all deal with at one time or another, but for some people, their lives are full of it. If you find yourself not being secure about anything you do in life, here are three tips to try and help you out.

1. Find the Sources of Your Insecurity and Fix Them if You Can

People aren’t inherently insecure, and thus, there has to be some source or reason why you are insecure. The sources of your insecurity can be anything from your voice, to how you look, how you dress or anything else. If the source is something you can’t control, modify other areas of your life to hopefully increase your security. But if your sources of insecurity are things like your wardrobe or your body, taking steps to improve in those areas can give you a huge boost of confidence.

2. Think of Your Successes

In life, we have all had success. While we may not all be a world champion at something or graduated at the top of our class, we all have successes that deserve to be celebrated. Whether it be a great test score, the great friends you have made or whatever it be. However if you are insecure, you often think about your shortcomings or embarrassing moments, which is never a good thing. Even keeping a journal of your successes to go back an reference isn’t a bad idea.

3. Cut off Negative Thinking

Negative thinking affects us all and can seriously ruin an otherwise great day. There is no way to completely stop negative thoughts from materializing, but what we can do is to not give them the time of day. If you let your negative thoughts consume you, they spin out of control and soon your mind is full of awful things that have no business being thought about and aren’t helping you at all. The key is that once you feel those negative thoughts coming, simply do something to preoccupy you or quickly pivot to thinking about a positive.
