One nasty thing that each and every one of us does from time to time is judge others. We may judge or make predetermined notions about people for a number of different reasons. Whether it is judging someone based on what they are wearing, who they hang out with, or a number of different things; it is not a good thing to do. In fact, judging everyone at all times is not only a mean thing to do to others, but it could be taking away from your own happiness as well. This is because if you are constantly clouding your heads with judgements of others, you will think about your own needs less. So why do we still judge so often then?

Well, the root of our judging nature normally comes from our own ego. By judging or putting others down, it gives us a short “boost” of ourselves. Now, if we look at the reason we judge others, it is normally pretty easy to see what they are. On one hand, we can judge someone based on our own jealously is someone has something we do not. The reason we judge them is to try and “take them down a peg” in our minds. Another reason we judge is if something someone does or wears doesn’t quite measure up to our standards, we condemn them for it.

If you find yourself judging a lot, it is a good idea to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you do it, and how you can stop. Having a conscious effort to stop yourself when you are about to judge is a good idea, though it isn’t always easy. Another good way to stop judging is to inherently think that everyone is doing their best at that given time, and you have no idea what their life circumstances and why they are doing what they’re doing.
