We have all found ourselves at one time or another feeling “less than perfect” the morning after a heavy night of drinking. We all say that we are done drinking, but that hardly lasts. For some people, hangovers are inevitable, and though there are no exact and perfect cures for hangovers, try these four tips to minimize the damage.

1. Water

If you have a hangover, the first thing you should look to do is down a bunch of good ol H2O. As you likely know, alcohol is a diueretic and thus can cause mass dehydration in your body. Thus, drinking water (or really any other light beverage) can go a long way in lessening the effects of your hangover. It really is crazy how something we drink every day and sort of take for granted is probably the biggest help for us when we are hung over.

2. Pain Relievers

While these will work different for different people, they are definitely worth a try. A normal associate of the queasy feeling of a hangover is a pounding headaches, and these pain relief pills could go a long way in minimizing the effects of that headache. However, you should avoid Tylenol as an active ingredient in that could cause further harm to your liver, and instead, you should opt for ibuprofen

3. Crackers or Toast

While crackers and toast might be the most common, really any light and plain food that is carb heavy will be great to eat the morning following a hangover. Your stomach pains may make it hard to eat anything at all, but eating a few crackers or some plain toast shouldn’t upset your stomach too much. These carbs are great because they bring your blood sugar back up after a night of drinking brings it down.

4. Rest and Sleep

If you have the luxury of doing so after a night of heavy drinking, it is advised to you just lay in bed or on the couch, try and sleep, and let the sickness pass. The body has a great ability to heal itself over time and there is no quicker way to pass the time than sleep. This is also the only true way to heal a hangover as other things can help it feel slightly better, but time is the only real way to rid the sickness.
