10 Ways to Drink More Water
Wellness January 22, 2024 Tiffany Wood
The benefits of drinking water are endless but if you’re anything like me, drinking your recommended 8 glasses of water a day seems completely impossible (and borderline tortuous.) With these 10 simple ideas, you’ll be on your way to becoming a real life mermaid in no time.
1. Infuse your water with flavor
Infusing your water with your favorite fruit/herbs is a great way of making your water a little more flavorful while also adding a ton of extra health benefits, too! Some amazing fruits/herbs to infuse your water with are strawberry, kiwi, pineapple, mint, lavender, assorted berries, etc.
2. Mark up your water bottle with deadlines
Mark your water bottle with time deadlines to make it easier to keep track of your intake and to also create a personal challenge for yourself. When marking your water bottle, make sure to set deadlines to drink most of your water intake earlier on in the day so you’re not awake all night, going to the bathroom every 10 minutes.
3. Track your water intake with an app and set reminders
Water tracking apps are amazing for keeping track of your intake while also creating a personal challenge to drink those 8 cups a day. When you’re consciously counting your cups, it’s easier to drink more because you’re more aware of your intake. Within some apps, there is the ability to set reminders every so often to finish a cup of water, but you can also just set reminders on your phone to do the same.
4. Drink a glass of water before you eat
Drinking a glass of water before you eat is helpful because it’s an easy way to ensure that you’re consuming a minimum of 3 glasses of water per day with little to no extra effort. Another amazing benefit of drinking water before you eat is that you’ll be less likely to over eat when your belly is full of water. A lot of the time, our bodies think that we’re hungrier than we are, when in reality, we’re actually just thirsty! If you ever find yourself feeling hungry after you’ve eaten, drink some water!
5. Consume more water-based foods
Eating foods that contain a lot of water is another easy trick to consume more water daily! Foods like watermelon, cucumber, cauliflower, eggplant, red cabbage, peppers, broccoli, etc. all contain at least 90% water content and can help to boost your hydration.
6. Start drinking teas, soda water, flavored water etc.
If the idea of drinking 8 cups of strictly water seems intimidating to you (you’re not alone,) try to get your water intake through drinks like herbal teas, flavored waters, and soda water (especially helpful if you’re looking to replace sugary carbonated drinks.)
7. Buy a cute water bottle
Just like having a nice office space inspires you to work more, having a cute water bottle may actually help you to drink more water. There are thousands of stunning and stylish water bottles on the market so you’ll be sure to find something you love. We recommend purchasing a water bottle with a water filter built in to it, or even a water bottle with a fruit infusing piece.
8. Drink a glass every time you pass the sink
Drinking a glass of water everytime you pass the sink is another great way to sneak in extra cups of water! Anytime you pass the sink, fill up a cup and drink it right there and then and then fill up another cup for later!
9. Use a straw
It’s proven that straws make you drink faster, therefore, more water is being consumed, making you more hydrated!
10. Eat more spicy food
Quite simply, spicy foods make you thirsty. You’re more likely to down a glass of water when you’re mouth is on fire from that Kung Pao than you are otherwise. By incorporating more spicy foods into your diet, you’re also ensuring that you’ll drink more water too!
